Cebex 100 is supplied as a powdered additive. The material is a combination of a plasticiser and a gaseous expansion agent. The plasticiser allows the use of a low water/cement ratio with a consequent increase in strength and durability. The expansive medium prevents natural settling and plastic shrinkage of the grout and aids its stability and cohesion.

Cebex 100 is an additive for cementitious grouts where a low water/cement ratio and effective expansion are required.

Applications include foundation backfilling, cable grouting, non-shrink backfilling and grouting.

Advantages

  • The expansion system compensates for plastic shrinkage and slump in cementitious grouts.
  • Reduced water/cement ratio ensures low permeability and long service life.
  • Provides a high flowing slurry with low water/cement ratio, for ease of placement or grouting.
  • No ferric content, which can cause corrosion, staining or deterioration, due to the expansion of rust in the grout.
  • Its composition allows the development of high early strengths without the use of chlorides.

Standards

Cebex 100 complies with UNE-EN 934-4:2010 Table 1 as an expansive additive for grouts.

Typical dosage

The optimum dosage of Cebex 100 to achieve specific requirements should be determined by testing using the materials and conditions that will be used in practice.

This allows optimisation of the additive dosage and mix design, providing a complete assessment of the mix. The usual dosage is between 0.25 and 0.6 litres of Cebex 100 per 100 kg of cementitious material, including fly ash, slag and microsilica.

Properties

The following results were obtained at a temperature of 20ºC:

  • Appearance: Brown powder
  • Chloride content: < 0,10% by mass
  • Setting times: Cebex 100 does not noticeably affect the setting times of cementitious grouts.
  • Expansion characteristics: The effective and controlled expansion of grouts containing Cebex 100 compensates and even exceeds the plastic slump. Plastic expansion of 3 to 6% is normal.
  • Expansion Time: 15 min - 2 hours.
  • Temperatures above 20°C may slightly reduce these times.
  • Main function: Cementitious slurries with expansion.

How to use

Compatibility

Cebex 100 is suitable for use with all RC-08 compliant cements and can be used in mixtures containing other Fosroc Euco admixtures. For further information, please contact the Fosroc Euco Technical Department.

Mixing

For best results a mechanical mixer capable of producing a homogeneous slurry is recommended. For quantities up to 35 kg, a high speed drill with a cutting paddle is suitable. For larger quantities, use a cutting paddle mixer. It is essential to co-ordinate the mixing capacity of the machine and the labour capacity. This may require the use of a storage tank fitted with an agitator to maintain fluidity.

Add the required water into the mixer. Then slowly add the cement (and if necessary the sand) and Cebex 100.

Dosage

  • Cement: 70 kg (2 bags 35 kg)
  • Water: 28-30 lts
  • Cebex 100: 315 g

Effects of overdosage

An overdosage of Cebex 100 increases the expansion and may cause foaming.

Application

Surfaces to be grouted should be prepared ensuring clean, sound and previously water saturated substrates. Free expanding surfaces should be minimised. Grout within 20 minutes of mixing to maximise the expansion process. The usual methods of placing or pumping shall be adopted so that the application is continuous.

Curing

Once grouting has been completed, the areas exposed to air shall be cured by the application of water or a Fosroc Euco Concure curing membrane.

Cleaning and disposal

Tools and equipment should be cleaned with water immediately after use. Remove hardened material mechanically or with Fosroc Acid Etch.

Limitations

Cebex 100 is incompatible with high alumina aluminous cement.

Storage

Cebex 100 has a storage life of 12 months if kept in its original container in a dry place. This period may be reduced by high temperatures and humidity.

Precautions

Safety and hygiene

Cebex 100 should not come into contact with skin and eyes, or inhalation of dust. Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves, eye/face protection and mask. If skin contact has occurred, wash with plenty of clean water. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water and seek medical attention.

For further information, please refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet.

Fire

Cebex 100 is water based and non-flammable.
