Description

Auracast 280 is a new generation concrete admixture with a high water-reducing power that provides high performance concretes at all ages.

Auracast 280 is particularly suitable for the manufacture of concrete with a low A/C ratio.

Used at the same consistency, it allows a strong reduction of mixing water and thus obtains high mechanical strengths in the short and long term. Its hardening accelerating effect is particularly beneficial for formwork stripping at early ages.

Uses

  • Suitable for ready-mixed concrete.
  • Precast concrete where an excellent surface finish is required.
  • Prestressed concrete with high final strengths.
  • Specially designed for precast concrete segments where high initial strengths are required.
  • Suitable for steam-cured precast concrete.
  • For the manufacture of self-compacting concrete.

Advantages

  • High water reducing power.
  • Significant improvement of both initial and final strengths.
  • Provides a very compact concrete with a good external appearance.

Standards

Auracast 280 complies with UNE-EN 934-2:2010 Tables 3.1. and 3.2. as a high activity water reducer/superplasticiser.

It meets the requirements of ASTM C494 for Type A water-reducing admixtures and Type F high-range water-reducing admixtures.

Typical dosage

The optimum dosage of Auracast 280 to achieve specific requirements should be determined by testing using the materials and conditions with which it will be used in practice.

This dosage can range from 200 to 2,000 ml per 100 kg of cementitious material. As a starting point, a dosage of 800 ml by weight of cementitious material can be used. For precast tunnel segments or segments for tunnels, the most suitable dosage is between 200 and 2,000 ml per 100 kg of cementitious material by weight.

Properties

The following results were obtained at a temperature of 20°C:

  • Appearance: Light brown liquid
  • Density: 1,080 ± 0,02 kg/l
  • pH: 4,0 ± 1,0
  • Water soluble chloride content (CI-): ≤ 0,10%.
  • Alkali content (Na2O equivalent): max. 2 % by mass
  • Primary function: Water reduction
  • Secondary function: Increasing initial and final strengths

Mode of use

Mixing design

Once the appropriate dosage has been selected, care must be taken to ensure the consistency of the materials used and the mixing and distribution processes.

Compatibility

Auracast 280 is only compatible with other additives in the Fosroc Euco range. If more than one admixture is used, they must be added to the concrete separately and not mixed together prior to being added. The resulting properties of concrete containing more than one admixture should be checked by prior testing.

Auracast 280 is suitable for use with all RC-08 compliant cements as well as other common cements.

Dosing system

The correct amount of Auracast 280 should be measured using a suitable dosing system. For best results, the admixture should be added to the concrete in the mixing water or directly in the mixer.

In this case, increase the setting time. Contact the Fosroc Euco Technical Department for advice on the appropriate dosing equipment and its installation.

Effects of overdosage

An overdosage of twice the maximum dosage indicated may cause segregation of the concrete as well as additional air entrapment.

Curing

The final characteristics of any structural concrete will depend on good curing practice. It is therefore very important to use a Fosroc Euco Concure curing membrane, water spray or wet burlap.

Clean-up and disposal

Spillage of Auracast 280 should be absorbed with sand or earth and transferred to suitable containers. Product residues should be flushed away with a large amount of water. Disposal of the product and packaging is the responsibility of the end user.

Storage

Auracast 280 has a shelf life of 6 months if kept in a dry place in its original, sealed containers at a temperature between 2ºC and 40ºC.

Precautions

Safety and Hygiene

Auracast 280 should not be swallowed or put in contact with skin and eyes. Wear protective gloves and goggles. Splashes on the skin should be washed off with water. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. If swallowed, seek immediate medical attention. Do not induce vomiting.

For further information consult the Material Safety Data Sheet of the product.

Fire

Auracast 280 is water based and non-flammable.
