Conplast SP435 is a chloride-free superplasticising admixture based on selected sulphonated naphthalene polymers. It is supplied as a brown solution that disperses instantly in water.

Conplast SP435 disperses the fine particles in the mix, enabling the water content of the concrete to work more effectively.

Uses

  • To provide early strength acceleration and further strength increase at all ages by significantly reducing the water in the concrete mix.
  • Particularly designed for use in combination with other admixtures in the MR range to achieve in-situ concrete with a very low water/cement ratio and high workability maintenance.
  • To significantly improve the workability of in-situ mixed concrete and precast concrete without increasing water demand.
  • To provide increased durability by increasing the ultimate strength and reducing the permeability of the concrete.
  • Particularly suitable for the manufacture of fluid concretes with low water/cement ratio and low permeability for use in caissons, piers, dams...
  • For the manufacture of sprayed concrete and mortar.

Advantages

  • The increase in strength at early ages without increasing the cement content is particularly beneficial in precast concrete, allowing earlier demoulding of the pieces.
  • Enables further reductions in the water/cement ratio, allowing the production of high strength concrete without excessive cement content.
  • Its use in the production of flowable concrete allows for easier construction, faster placement and compaction and reduced labour costs without increasing water content.
  • Higher levels of workability are maintained for longer than those achieved with melamine-based admixtures.
  • Improved cohesion and particle dispersion minimises segregation and exudation and improves pumpability.
  • Chloride-free, it is safe for use with prestressed and reinforced concrete.

Standards

Conplast SP435 complies with UNE-EN 934-2:2010 Tables 3.1. and 3.2. as a high activity water reducer / superplasticiser.

Typical dosage

The optimum dosage of Conplast SP435 to achieve specific requirements should be determined by testing, using the materials and conditions that will be used in practice. This allows optimisation of the additive dosage and the mix, as well as a complete evaluation of the concrete.

Typical dosages range from 0.6% to 2% by weight of cement.

Properties

The following results were obtained at a temperature of 20°C:

  • Appearance: Brown liquid
  • Density: 1,175 ± 0,01 kg/l
  • pH: 7.5 ± 1.0
  • Water soluble chloride content (CI-): ≤ 0,10%.
  • Alkali content (Na2O equivalent): max. 6 % by mass
  • Primary function: To increase workability
  • Secondary function: Accelerate early strengths

Mode of use

Mix design

When the intention is to improve strengths, initial trials should be made with normal concrete mixes. The addition of admixture allows water to be removed from the mix while maintaining workability at levels obtained prior to the use of admixture. After initial trials, minimal modifications should be made to the overall mix design to optimise results.

When the primary intention is to provide high workability concrete, the initial mix design should be that of pumped concrete. Fosroc Euco's Technical Department will advise on the appropriate mix to achieve free-flowing concrete. In a correct fluid concrete mix, the better dispersion of the cement particles and the more efficient use of the mixing water will improve the cohesion of the mix. The slight air occlusion obtained with Conplast SP435 will help to minimise exudation and segregation. After initial trials, minimal modifications should be made to the mix to optimise results.

Compatibility

Conplast SP435 is compatible with other Fosroc Euco admixtures used in the same concrete mix. If more than one admixture is used, they must be added to the concrete separately and not mixed together before being added. The resulting properties of concrete containing more than one admixture must be checked by prior testing. Conplast SP435 is suitable for use with all cements complying with RC-08.

Dosing system

The correct quantity of Conplast SP435 should be measured using a suitable dosing system. Normally the admixture is added with the mixing water for best results. When a high workability concrete is required from a normal workability concrete, Conplast SP435 admixture can be added directly to the truck mixer. To ensure complete mixing of the admixture in the truck mixer, a mixing time of at least 2 minutes at high speed is required. Contact the Fosroc Euco Technical Department for advice on suitable equipment and installation.

Effects of overdosage

An overdosage of twice the maximum dosage indicated may cause delayed setting of the concrete as well as additional air entrapment.

Curing

As with all structural concrete, good curing must be achieved, particularly in situations where overdosing has occurred. A Fosroc Euco Concure type curing membrane, water (sprayed) or wet burlap should be used.

Clean-up and disposal

Spills of Conplast SP435 should be absorbed with sand or earth and transferred to suitable containers. Product residues should be flushed away with a large amount of water. Disposal of the product and packaging is the responsibility of the end user.

Storage

Conplast SP435 has a storage period of 12 months if kept in a dry place and in its original, closed containers at a temperature between 2ºC and 40ºC.

Freezing point: -2 ºC approx.

Precautions

Safety and Hygiene

Conplast SP435 must not be swallowed or come into contact with skin and eyes. Wear suitable protective gloves and goggles. Splashes on the skin should be washed off with water. In case of contact with eyes, flush with plenty of water and seek medical advice. If swallowed, seek immediate medical attention. Do not induce vomiting.
