Cebex 120 is a chloride-free, plasticising and aerating powder additive that provides a more waterproof and workable mortar by air entrapment.

Uses

  • Cebex 120 mortar additive is a powdered aerating and plasticising additive, which is added to mortar (or cement beforehand) for brick laying or plastering. Based on polymerised resins, it is guaranteed chloride-free.
  • Cebex 120 is specially designed for use in dry mortars, delivered to site in silos, ready for use, after mixing in an auger.

Advantages

  • Cebex 120 increases the adhesion of the mortar. Prevents the mortar from sagging on the facing.
  • Facilitates the reduction of both water and cement in sand/cement mixtures.
  • It allows the maximum degree of plasticity to be obtained. The mixture remains workable for a longer period of time.
  • As the mass is more manageable, it facilitates the laying of bricks in less time.
  • Due to the increase in volume caused by the occlusion of air, less sand is needed to achieve the same volume.
  • It is not necessary to add lime or clayey sands to the mortar to increase plasticity.

Standards

Cebex 120 complies with UNE-EN 934-3:2004 as an air inclusor / plasticiser.

Typical dosage

The optimum dosage of Cebex 120 to achieve specific requirements should be determined by testing, using the materials and conditions that will be used in practice.

This allows optimisation of the additive dosage and mix design, providing a full assessment of the mix. The usual dosage is between 0.1 and 0.5 kg of Cebex 120 per 100 kg of cement.

Properties

  • Appearance: White powder
  • Density: 1.03 kg/litre at 20 °C
  • Water soluble chloride content (CI-): ≤ 0,10%.
  • Alkali content (Na2O equivalent): ≤ 2,00% by mass
  • Primary function: Plasticiser allowing a reduction of the water content
  • Secondary function: Increases workability

Mode of use

Mixing

Cebex 120 should be added together with the sand and cement in the premix, to achieve a perfect homogenisation of the additive within the mortar mass.

It should never be added in the mixing water.

A sand granulometry with excessive fines content will lead to a higher quantity of additive needed to achieve the same effect.

It is necessary to take into account the mixing medium, as it directly affects the performance of the additive.

Compatibility

Cebex 120 is compatible with other Fosroc Euco admixtures used in the same mortar mix. All additives should be added to the mix separately and should not be mixed together before addition. The resulting properties of the mixture, which contains more than one admixture, must be evaluated according to the test procedure recommended in this data sheet.

Cebex 120 is suitable for use with all cements complying with RC-08.

Curing

As with all cementitious systems, adequate curing of the mortar should be sought to ensure that no cracking or hairline cracks result. Fosroc Euco Concure, water (sprayed) or wet burlap can be used as a curing membrane.

Cleaning

Tools and equipment should be cleaned with water immediately after use. Remove hardened material mechanically or with Fosroc Euco Acid Etch.

Storage

Cebex 120 has a storage period of 12 months if kept in original packaging and in a dry place. This period may be reduced by high temperatures and humidity.

Precautions

Safety and hygiene

Cebex 120 has a low level of toxicity. Avoid contact with skin and eyes, or inhalation of dust. Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves, eye/face protection and mask.

If skin contact has occurred, wash with plenty of clean water. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water and seek medical attention. In case of accidental ingestion, seek immediate medical attention. Do not induce vomiting.
