Conplast CN is essentially based on calcium nitrite. Where calcium nitrite is specified for addition to concrete as a corrosion inhibiting admixture.
Advantages
- Based on chemical specifications for use as a concrete inhibitor.
- Can be used in conjunction with other admixtures.
Typical dosage
The optimum dosage of Conplast CN to achieve specific requirements should be determined by testing, using the materials and conditions that will be used in practice.
A starting point for such trials is to use a dosage between 7.5 litres and 22.5 litres per cubic metre of concrete. As Conplast CN has a high dosage level, the water of the added admixture should be included in the calculation of the water/cement ratio.
Properties
The following results were obtained at a temperature of 20°C:
- Appearance: Brownish liquid
- Water soluble chloride content (CI-): ≤ 0,10%.
- Calcium nitrite content: Min. 30%.
Directions for use
Compatibility
Conplast CN is compatible with other Fosroc Euco admixtures in the same concrete mix. If more than one admixture is used, they should be added to the concrete separately and not mixed together before being added. The resulting properties of concrete containing more than one admixture must be checked by prior testing.
Conplast CN is suitable for use with all cements that comply with the RC-08 standard.
Contact the Fosroc Euco Technical Service Department regarding the use with sulphate resistant cements and cement replacement materials.
Dosing system
The correct quantity of Conplast CN should be measured by means of a suitable dosing system. For best results, the admixture should be added to the concrete in the mixing water or directly into the mixer at the same time as the water. Contact Fosroc Euco's Technical Department for advice on the appropriate dosing equipment and its installation.
Curing
The final characteristics of any structural concrete will depend on good curing practice. It is therefore very important to use a Fosroc Euco Concure curing membrane, water spray or wet burlap.
Clean-up and disposal
Spills of Conplast CN should be absorbed with sand or earth and transferred to suitable containers. Product residues should be flushed away with a large amount of water. Disposal of the product and packaging is the responsibility of the end user.
Storage
IBC supply - contents should be shaken before use.
Bulk supply - must be recirculated with pump.
Conplast CN has a shelf life of 12 months if kept in dry place in its original, sealed containers at a temperature between 2ºC and 50ºC.
Conplast CN is an oxidising agent and should be stored away from reducing agents and combustible materials.
Precautions
Safety and Hygiene
Conplast CN is toxic and must not be swallowed or come into contact with skin and eyes. Wear protective gloves and goggles. Splashes on skin should be washed off with water. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. If swallowed, seek immediate medical attention. Do not induce vomiting.
For further information, please refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet.
Fire
Conplast CN is water based and non-flammable, but should be stored away from combustible materials.
